Bio-metric systems are an automated recognition of individuals and there is a debate on whether people should use these systems or just carry on using their cash, card, oyster etc…

What do you think?

There are several types of system for example, fingerprint, facial recognition and iris scan and some argue that these bio-metric systems are a good way towards new technology being used in the future instead of the current paying types that people use today. So we can begin to analyse the advantages of the bio-metric systems and why they may be a successful way to move forward.

Firstly, an advantage is fingerprints and retina scans have shown to be highly accurate which means they are less likely to go into fault.

Another advantage is that Bio-metrics cannot be forgotten, stolen or lost which makes these systems a major advantage rather than using debit/credit cards or cash that may run the risk of being forgotten, stolen or lost. This further accentuates that people who are rushing in for work, for example, will thus have less stress and using these systems and there isn’t a worry of theft, loss or an item being forgotten. Furthermore, bio-metrics cannot be shared or used by other people.

Alternatively, the disadvantages of bio-metrics is that some of the systems require a high level skill to use and it may be difficult to try and train a large group of people.

Another disadvantage is that if the bio-metrics came into place straight away, people may be confused by them and potentially it can stress the person out more or it can slow them down. Factors for example, hats and the lighting quality can slow down the accuracy of the bio-metrics.
