Virtual reality allows people to engage into different adventures and have wonderful images of a set or landscape whether you are in a land filled with dinosaurs or you are on a crazy roller coaster. Furthermore, the imaginative and creative idea has actually proven to be beneficial and has some what changed the uses of virtual reality. Virtual reality can be a great way to understand certain characteristics and for the user, it can create a sense of understanding to the world around them.

The UK’s National Autistic Society have made a virtual reality film to allow people to experience what it is like to live with Autism, furthermore the film involves a young, autistic boy as he walks around the shopping centre presenting what he sees, hears and feels.

Surveys suggest that 99% of people have heard of autism, however only 16% really have an understanding of what it means and unfortunately, more than a quarter of people with the condition have been asked to leave a public place for example, a restaurant.

Enabling someone to understand or experience what people with autism see, hear and feel has created a huge development with our knowledge and allowing people to see into this condition really shows that charities are taking a bigger step to success.

Alzheimer’s Research UK have also made a VR film to show people how everyday tasks like walking home can be a challenge, and it is a definite eye opener!

Surgeon Dr Shafi Ahmed has become one of the first to present a live virtual experience of giving surgery in April 2016. 5,000 people watched the live surgery that was taking place to remove a tumor. The benefits of using virtual reality means that there could be a reduction on the cost of training doctors and ultimately a wider audience to understand what surgeons do and it makes more people aware of their job.

Virtual reality is helping to reduce the amount of phobias because in the US, it has been used to help soldiers deal with post-traumatic stress disorder, also in one study, 23 people were encouraged to approach virtual spider and by the end of the experiment, 83% of people showed a huge improvement on how they could tolerate the situation.

There are so many great reasons to use virtual reality and it shows how much it can help others in ways that you may have not thought it would.
