The new PlayStation Virtual Reality: good or bad?

Previews

PlayStation have recently released the new virtual reality to which the headset is already making its way into loads of gamer’s. There has been various opinions for and against PlayStation’s virtual reality so let’s discuss some of the factors whether they are positives or negatives and analyse the true quality of PlayStation’s product.

Lets start on a positive note:

PlayStation’s strengths

The PlayStation VR is cheaper than Facebook’s Oculus rift and the HTC Vive as it costs £350.00 on online stores. Furthermore, the PlayStation bundle set will cost around £555.00 which is still cheaper than the two Facebook and HTC VR sets.

Unlike the Facebook and HTC VR sets, you do not have to purchase a separate console to play VR which means people do not have to spend more money on a console that only restricts them to play the VR so this means that everyone would save money.

Games such as “Batman Arkham VR” has had the highest and best reviews as some people are saying “that feeling of shocking immersion is certainly ever-present”. The PlayStation VR has not failed on the fact that it delivers an imaginary, fun and realistic view of someone’s interests which is an extremely important strength.

The comfort and adjustments to the headset is also a strength to PlayStation because customers and newspaper magazines have claimed that “the VR headset is the most comfortable headset on the market.” Furthermore to adjust the headset, it is simply to tighten or loosen it at the back so it fits comfortably on your head.

In contrary to this, like every product, there are some problems…

Playstation’s weaknesses

Unlike some VR headsets the PlayStation VR not wireless which perhaps suggests that the person who is playing the VR, can only go within a certain distance from their console. Furthermore, the PlayStation VR comes with a little box console to which you have to connect the console and the headset to but this means, you are limited to how far you can go whilst playing it. As they’re so many wires involved, be careful as there may be a tripping hazard!

Furthermore, the PlayStation vr can become quite limited in other areas because as there are so many wires, it can be easy to move the camera which means you cannot be detected. A big limitation of the PSVR is that if a VR game requires you to be active and turn around for example, the camera will not pick up your move controllers and it could effect your game. Unlike the HTC Vive, the VR comes with two cameras to which you can move around the room and you can be detected.

Different accessories like the move controllers have to be sold separately which may cause your budget to increase a little more than you had hoped as the move controllers are quite essential for most games and they will pick up your movement a lot better when you are in front of the camera.

Lastly, some people have claimed that a fair share of the games that Sony have provided, were “awkward to control with the game controller or move controllers” and some of the games were just described as “boring”.

To Conclude…

PlayStation’s VR is a lot cheaper than other brands for example the HTC Vive and Facebook’s Oculus Rift and it differs from these brands as you can use your PlayStation console instead of buying a new one. However, the amount of wires can be a potential hazard and can effect your experience in virtual reality.

There are many different advantages and disadvantages to the PlayStation VR but what is your view?
