Last week a few reports went out claiming that Sony is working on a PlayStation 4.5 which would be a PlayStation 4 with 4K graphics. Since then, there have been more reports about a PlayStation 4.5 but with a little change to the previously stated upgrade from the PlayStation 4. Although technology has come a long way, there won’t be enough processing power to deliver 4K graphics to a gaming console.

The PlayStation 4.5 will be capable of having some aspects of 4K graphics but not the full 4K experience. The console will be able to have a more vast range of colours and the ability to let you play ultra HD media. Depending on how much they have to change the former PlayStation, it may not enable players to play online across both PlayStation platforms. Sony are said to have prototypes of the PlayStation 4.5 and are experimenting a lot with the console.
If Sony does want to work towards this idea of bringing out a mid-generation console then I feel they’ll have to do more work to it. I just can’t see many people wanting to spend hundreds of pounds on a console that only upgrades the graphics. If a full 4K experience isn’t possible to bring to gaming consoles then bringing out a mid-generation console is a huge risk in terms of sales.
