Eddie the Eagle is a feel-good film based on a true story. As a young boy, Eddie always dreamed of being an Olympian, but whatever different area he attempted to compete in, he wasn’t very good at. At the age of ten, Eddie attempted different areas that he could have featured in the Olympics such as the hurdles, high jump and javelin but it was clear that he wasn’t very good at any of them.
Eddie’s father tells him that he is not an athlete, after seeing Eddie fail in just about anything that he could ever represent in the Olympics. One day Eddie saw people practising on a ski slope, this lead to him having a realisation which is that he wanted to compete in the Winter Olympics. One thing struck his mind that he actually wanted to stick with, the ski jump. This is what Eddie decided he wanted to focus on in the hope that he would eventually make it to the Winter Olympics. This is something he was determined to do.

Just like everything else, Eddie wasn’t very good at all at the ski jump. He was always falling over and having accidents. But as he had his mind set on this dream of representing Great Britain at the Winter Olympics, he decided to stick with it and looked to find himself a coach. Someone that can actually help him improve his abilities with the hope that he would hopefully be able to continue his journey.
Eddie finds a former world champion who was a very rebellious sportsman. He didn’t believe in Eddie at the start and questioned Eddie’s reasons for carrying on trying to ski jump but Eddie did carry on. Although his coach, Bronson Peary, didn’t believe in Eddie, he set out to help him make his dream come true.
When Eddie does feature in the Olympics, he not only becomes a national hero but also wins the hearts of sports fans all over the world. Will Eddie fail miserably? Or will the underdog pull off something quite spectacular?
