Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has confirmed on his Facebook account that he will be taking up the role of Clark Savage in an upcoming Doc Savage film.
Johnson confirmed the news by posting “It’s OFFICIAL: For all comic book fans you already know the world’s first superhero (pre-dating Superman) is the ‘Man of Bronze’ himself Clark ‘Doc’ Savage.”
Johnson also went on to say “Doc was physically and mentally trained from birth by his father and a team of scientists to become the perfect human specimen with a genius level intellect. His heightened senses are beyond comprehension. He can even identify a women’s perfume from half a mile away. He is literally the master of everything. But here’s the #1 reason I’m excited to become Doc Savage.. HE’S A F***ING HILARIOUS WEIRDO!” You can tell Dwayne Johnson is excited about this role.

The film is set to be directed by Shane Black who has also worked on Iron Man 3 and most recently The Nice Guys. In March, Black said “We’re hoping to make it sometime next year. I would very much like to do Doc with a fellow named Dwayne Johnson if we can make that work. I made a decision that Dwayne is the guy. It’s on the back burner while he’s busy.”
Johnson currently has several films lined up for over the next few years including Fast 8, Jumanji, Baywatch and San Andreas 2. Now that he has signed up to be Doc Savage, his calendar is as full as it has ever been.
The first Doc Savage comic was published back in 1933, before Superman’s time. A film was made about the comic in 1975 but the movie was a flop. There hasn’t been a movie about Doc Savage since that first film.
Hopefully this upcoming film will be one to remember and do the comics justice.
