Cliff Bleszinski explains why he left Epic Games and how some people at Epic Games thought Gears of War was ‘kind of a fluke’.

Cliff Bleszinski the co-founder of Boss Key Productions has shed light on why he has left Epic Games. His frustration from the company has come from some developers at the studio thinking that Gears of War was ‘kind of a fluke’.

When IGN asked Mr Bleszinki why he left, he had this to say: ‘It’s simple, a big Chinese company comes along and I had a big chunk of ownership at Epic and they buy 40 percent of it without any strings attached’

‘Epic at the time, and I say this very carefully because they’ve really kind of changed into their own entity… But at the time there was this whole like ‘Gears was kind of a fluke’, you know, and I could pitch any idea to the company and inevitably I’d have somebody in my office going ‘I don’t buy it’.

After all this has happened at work Bleszinki was ‘creatively getting frustrated’, so when the buyout happened and ‘they couldn’t come to any sort of terms’ in renegotiating his contract. After this happened Bleszinki simply just stopped going to work, however he has admitted that this was not the way to go about it. That could simply not happen so he was given the choice of either return to work or quit. The next day Bleszinki went in and decided to hand in his resignation.
